Impact by Design

Natural was founded with impact at the core of its purpose. We are strong believers in Doing well by doing good. We reject the notion that impact and profit are two communicating vessels, and instead believe that they must and do go hand in hand. We look to make a significant impact on addressing the interrelated challenges arising from climate change, world population growth and the transformation of the world’s water and food systems to provide sustainable and economic supply water and food. Our fund was designed specifically with this objective in mind – something we call Impact by Design.

Sustainable Development Goals

Water and food security run central throughout our economy, and their sustainable provision is critical to achieving many of the Sustainable Development Goals.

The investments Natural makes will by their nature positively affect the following SDGs:

Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.

End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture.

Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all.

Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialisation and foster innovation.

Make cities and human cities inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.

Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns

Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts.

Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development.

Impact Measurement

Natural aligns its impact objectives with the SDGs and actively monitors its impact – and works with its portfolio to measure theirs. Next to financial performance targets we define concrete impact targets for each of our investments. This ensures we remain true to our mission and materialise the impact we set out to realise. We are allergic to greenwashing – so we put our money where our mouth is. Part of the compensation of the Natural team is contingent on the fund reaching its impact objectives.

ESG

We believe that ESG excellence is key to building successful companies that can scale, create value and good economic returns to our investors. Companies that focus on ESG performance are actively managing their internal risks, and thereby increasing their chances of solid financial performance. Natural has built ESG into every stage of its investment process and continuously works with its portfolio companies to improve their ESG performance.

Principles for Responsible Investment

Natural Ventures is a signatory to the Principles for Responsible Investment. These Principles were developed by investors, for investors. In implementing them, signatories contribute to developing a more sustainable global financial system.

“Natural Ventures Impact Fund is an impact venture capital fund that promotes environmental and social characteristics by investing in and supporting innovative technologies to address many of the world’s water and food security challenges. The Fund will exclude from investment companies engaged in particular business activities or behaviour which are harmful to environmental or social objectives.
